Project:
Cross-border LEAPs: Environmental Planning for Peace and Stability |
The main goal of the PROJECT is to improve cooperation between the four cross-border municipalities in the process of carrying out their priority environmental problems. The project will assemble various stakeholder groups in the community, such as local authorities, public utilities, NGO`s and all concerned citizens to achieve an agreement intending to contribute to betterment of living conditions of the citizens.
Goals
of the project:
· To open channels
of communication and improve cooperation across national borders, ethnic
groups, and religious groups in SEE through cooperation in environmental
planning.
· To improve the capacity of local authorities to manage their environmental
problems through effective planning, multi-stakeholder cooperation, increased
public environmental awareness and participation, and to develop a model,
which can promote similar improvements elsewhere in the region.
· To improve the overall state of environment in selected cross-border
communities of SEE through co-financing priority environmental actions.
Expected results:
· Four LEAP coordinators and stakeholder group members receive tailored
training, guidance, and hands-on experience in developing LEAPs in their
communities
· Four Local Environmental Action Plans (LEAPs) prepared by municipalities
of Bratunac, Rudo, Ljubovija and Priboj, with the participation of all
community stakeholders
· Four municipalities receive co-financing and guidance to implement one
priority environmental investment projects in their communities through
transparent international-standard tendering process
· Key experts from local authorities, public utilities and other institutions
receive targeted training on developing and financing environmental investment
projects
· Four cross-border communities develop and further political, social
and other contacts through joint development of LEAPs; quality of the
environmental planning is improved due to technical coordination between
neighbours
· Cross-Border cooperation between local communities develop and further
political, social and cultural contacts through joint development of LEAPs.
