Introduction
Recently,
Canton Sarajevo has been faced with problem of rapid building and industrialisation
that leave consequences on environment and people's health. Being aware
of such state, it has been arisen the need for attentive planning and
finding out the ways to attain the economic development and progress with
maximal protection and conservation of natural resources.
Aiming to get better defined and more efficient environmental management
Canton Sarajevo initiated development of Cantonal Environmental Action
Plan (Cantonal EAP) by the end of 2004. In accordance with that, Government
of Canton Sarajevo made conclusion that Ministry of Physical Planning
and Environment of Canton Sarajevo start to develop of Cantonal EAP.
As the Cantonal EAP is completely new form of the environmental action
plan, which considers Canton as the spatial-administrative unit, its development
will be based on international and local experiences, as well as on methodologies
for National Environmental Action Plan (NEAP) and Local Environmental
Action Plan s (LEAPs) development.
Cantonal Environmental Action Plan is developmental-planning document,
in which the current state of environment is reviewed, and which would,
in the future, contribute to the realistic planning and realization of
the developmental plans based on the principals of the sustainable development.
Contract on Cantonal Environmental Action Plan development between Mr.
Nešad Šeremet, director of Regional Environmental Centre for Bosnia and
Herzegovina (REC BiH) and Mr. Zlatko Petrovic, minister of physical planning
and environment of Canton Sarajevo was signed on December 29, 2004.
