First
Regional conference
The First Regional conference «Local Environmental Action Plans Methodologies»
was held on October 29-30, 2004 in Durres City, Albania.
Around 42 participants - representatives of the municipalities and the
REC Offices from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro
and Macedonia, representatives of REC Offices from Croatia and Kosovo,
as well as representatives of Sida and Ministry of Environment of Albania
were participated at the meeting.
The purpose of the conference was to exchange information regarding project
status and methodology on LEAP development in each country, as well as
to present involvement of NGOs in the project and the benefits coming
from the LEAP process. Also, participants were introduced with the importance
of public participation in process of LEAP development and gender issues,
especially with the role of women in environmental protection.
Second Regional conference
The Second Regional conference “LEAPs for the Earth” was held on April
22-23, 2005 on Bjelasnica Mountain, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Around 120 participants - representatives of 20 municipalities from Albania,
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Serbia and Montenegro; REC Offices
from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary, Macedonia, Serbia
and Montenegro and Turkey, representatives of authorities and high officials,
international, nongovernmental and other organizations were participated
at the meeting. Representatives of 20 municipalities from Albania, Bosnia
and Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary, Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, Sweden
and Turkey attended the meeting. The Earth Day was promoted and eco-fair
for 20 municipalities from Albania, BiH, Macedonia and Serbia and Montenegro
was organised within the meeting.
The purpose of the conference was information exchange regarding the action
plans, particularly in relation to media, spatial planning and health.
The 35th Earth Day was promoted and celebrated within the conference.
In that sense, eco-fair for 20 municipalities from Albania, BiH, Macedonia
and Serbia and Montenegro was organized.
Third
Regional conference
The Third Regional conference “Challenges and Opportunities for Implementation
of LEAP Strategies” was held on October 16-18, 2005 in Ohrid, Macedonia.
Around 60 participants - representatives of the municipalities and the
REC Offices from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro
and Macedonia, representatives of REC Offices from Croatia and Hungary,
as well as the representatives of the Embassy of Sweden in Macedonia and
LEAP Monitoring Team participated at the meeting. The purpose of the meeting
was discussion of possibilities for funding of the local environmental
action plans and mechanisms and tools for LEAP implementation. Also, the
results of the LEAP process in each country were presented.
Fourth
Regional conference
The fourth Regional conference “Perspectives of Urban Development in South
Eastern Europe” was held on April 10-11, 2006 in Belgrade, Serbia and
Montenegro.
Around 60 participants - representatives of the municipalities and the
REC Offices from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro
and Macedonia, representatives of REC Offices from Croatia and Hungary,
as well as the representatives of Sida, European Agency for Reconstruction
and Embassy of Sweden in Belgrade participated at the meeting. The purpose
of the conference was to provide a general overview of progress of development
and implementation of LEAPs in the municipalities. Also, the following
issues were discussed: evaluation and monitoring of local environmental
programs, local communities and EU integration and funding opportunities
for Western Balkan local communities.
