Development of Local Environmental Action Plans in Bosnia and Herzegovina
 
 

Goals of the project:

This project is aiming in giving support in development and implementation of LEAPs to six selected municipalities in BiH.
The project addresses issues of sustainable development and encourages public participation, as main component of the civil society building and democratisation process.

Main goals of the project:
- Capacity building of local communities in solving the environmental problems
- To increase relevant stakeholders to take an active part in process of LEAP development
- To build partnership between different local stakeholders
- To improve transparency and quality of environmental decision-making
- To identify, assess and rank environmental problems based on risks on human health, ecosystems and overall quality of life
- To increase public awareness and responsibility in environmental protection
- To increase public participation in solving the environmental problems
- Capacity building of local stakeholders through training and direct participation in LEAP development and implementation.

Long-term goals of the project:
- To improve the entire environmental conditions in the municipalities
- To strengthen the ability of the local government, business sector and NGOs in application and management of environmental problems, as well as in finding investors for their solving.


Results of the project:
1) LEAP document developed and adopted in all 6 municipality (Maglaj, Doboj, Živinice, Sanski Most, Prijedor, Novi Grad Sarajevo)
2) Four Regional conferences organized.......in detail
